Michael King received his Master’s degree in art in 1976.  While still in his mid 20’s he taught in the art departments of four Southern California colleges. His art work has been exhibited at art galleries, colleges and museums; including the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institute, Washington DC, Parsons School of Design, New York City and Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles. During the 1970’s and 1980’s Michael was the recipient of several awards, and in 1975 won first place in the National Plate and Platter Design Competition, sponsored and hosted by Westwood Ceramics in California.  His artwork can be found in several private and institutional permanent collections throughout the United States. In 1977 Michael was honored to participate in what was then, and still considered to be, the premier ceramic art invitational, The Annual Scripps Ceramic Invitational, Lang Gallery, Scripps College, Claremont, Ca. Since 1976 Michael has been the owner and driving force behind Michael King Designs. Over the past three decades he has applied his keen artistic eye, as well as his extensive knowledge of glaze chemistry to the art of tile making.  He has designed and produced custom tiles for many discerning residential and commercial clients, and is considered by many to be at the top of his field.
